KTM Duke 125 and RC 125 Discontinued; Likely to Be Replaced by More Powerful Models

KTM has silently discontinued the Duke 125 and RC 125 in India and have removed them from its official website. While the brand is yet to reveal the reason for their discontinuation, it might be due to its poor sales performance in the market.

For those unaware, the KTM Duke 125 and RC 125 are entry-level performance motorcycles designed for beginner riders who want a taste of KTM’s aggresive styling and sharp handling. The Duke 125, with its streetfighter stance and the RC 125, featuring a fully-faired sporty design, offer a balance of lightweight agility and performance. They were idel for riders looking to refine their skills before moving up to more powerful models.

However, despite their attractive design and capable chassis, both bikes struggled due to their high pricing. The KTM Duke 125 was priced at ₹1.81 lakh (ex-showroom), while the RC 125 came at an even steeper ₹1.92 lakh (ex-showroom). These price tags made them significantly more expensive than their competitors, such as the Yamaha MT-15 and R15, which offer better power at a lower price point.

Although KTM has not made an official announcement about replacements, reports suggest that the brand is working on the Duke 160 and RC 160, which will feature more powerful engines while retaining KTM’s signature styling and dynamics. In fact, the RC 160 was recently spotted testing in India, hinting at an imminent launch. These new models are expected to be priced between ₹1.80 lakh and ₹1.90 lakh (ex-showroom).

With these new motorcycles, KTM aims to offer better value and performance while staying competitive in the growing entry-level performance bike segment.
