Kia India has released a teaser video on its social media handles, hinting at a new all-electric model and a hybrid-powered vehicle. These models are likely to be revealed in the coming weeks. While it is not official, the battery electric vehicle (BEV) is likely to be the Syros EV, while the hybrid model could be the Sorento 7-seater SUV sold in international markets.

Kia Syros EV launch date in India

The long-awaited Kia Syros EV has already been spied testing numerous times on our soil. It is expected to utilise the same K1 platform as its ICE counterpart, and is likely to feature the same battery packs offered with the Hyundai Inster EV sold globally. That said, expect it to be equipped with two battery pack options: 42KWh and 49kWh, with a claimed range of over 400km on a single charge.

Design-wise, the Syros EV will look largely identical to its ICE counterpart, save for some EV-specific styling changes like a blanked-off grille, tweaked bumper design and new aero-specific alloy wheels.

Expect it to be priced in the ballpark of Rs 15 – 20 lakh (ex-showroom), placing it against the Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV400 EV, and MG Windsor EV. Once launched, it will become Kia’s most affordable electric offering in the Indian market.

Kia Sorento HEV

The Kia Sorento is a premium, three-row SUV in Kia’s global lineup, and the brand is actively testing it for the Indian market. Codenamed MQ4i, the Indian-spec Sorento is likely to utilise a 1.5-litre strong-hybrid engine, which will also power the next-gen Hyundai Creta and updated Kia Seltos in the near future.

While it is not official, the Kia Sorento is expected to be around 4.8 meters long and could be positioned against the upcoming MG Starlight 560 and JSW’s first offering for the Indian market. However, those models are likely to be plug-in-hybrid SUVs, whereas Kia’s HEV is expected to be a self-charging hybrid vehicle, similar to the Toyota Hyryder and Maruti Grand Vitara.
