Tata Nexon EV Achieved Thousand Production Milestone In Just 6 Months

Tata Motors has rolled out the 1000th unit of Nexon EV from its Pune production plant. It has been only six months since Nexon was launched and in such a short time, achieving these sales figures and that too in the Indian market where the electric segment is in its initial stages, is a milestone in itself. It is also to be noted that a nationwide lockdown was also implemented within these six months.

With this achievement, the Nexon EV has also become the best-selling electric car in India with over 62% share of the market as of Q1 FY21. There are four other electric cars on sale in India, which includes Tata Tigor EV, Hyundai Kona Electric, Mahindra E Verito, and MG ZS EV.

Rivals

Currently, In the electric sub-4m SUV segment, there is no direct rival of Tata Nexon EV. However, the Hyundai Kona Electric and MG ZS EV SUVs are also available in India, but they are very expensive in comparison to the Tata's offering. Hence, we cannot consider them its competitor. The Hyundai Kona Electric costsRs 23.75 lakh to Rs 23.94 lakh, while the MG ZS EV retails at Rs 20.88 lakh to Rs 23.58 lakh.

Soon Mahindra will also launch the electrified version of Mahindra XUV300.

Author's Take

Achieving 1000 units milestone in such a short time by Nexon EV shows that customers are now adopting electric vehicles which is a very good sign and in the interest of the environment. We hope that this figure will increase more rapidly in the coming time. But there is still a need for more and more EVs to be launched in the budget section which must also offer a better drive range.
