Mahindra BE 6e, XEV 9e Electric SUVs Revealed

After many teases and spy shots, the highly-anticipated Mahindra BE 6e and XEV 9e have finally been revealed in India. Their launch will take place in January 2025, while deliveries starting in February.

Exterior Design

  • Both the Mahindra BE 6e and XEV 9e feature a completely distinctive design from all the Mahindra offerings.
  • They boast modern and futuristic styling, with sharp cuts and creases and heavily contoured surfaces. Both SUVs also sport connected LED lighting elements, LED projector headlamps, flush-fitting door handles, a sloping roofline, aerodynamic alloy wheels, illuminated logos, and heavily flared wheel arches with gloss-black cladding.

Interior and Features

  • The BE 6e features a cockpit-style interior layout with a halo design wrapping around the driver’s side. It features a dual floating-screen setup. On the other hand, the XEV 9e, derived from the ICE-powered XUV700, get a triple screen setup, covering the entire width of the dashboard.
  • Both models also get new two-spoke steering wheels with an illuminated logo in the centre.
  • Mahindra says that all glasses in both the XEV 9e and BE 6e feature- a special coating that can cool the cabin 40% quicker than any other comparable model.
  • They also utilise a Variable Gear Geometry in steering that adjusts the steering ratio based on vehicle speed and driving conditions, making the steering easier at low speeds, particularly for parking or tight turns. It also provides more control at higher speeds.
  • Depending on the variants, both SUVs also receive features like panoramic sunroof, dual-zone AC, premium 16-speaker Harmon Kardon sound system, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, AdrenoX connected car tech, ventilated front seats, wireless charger, multi-coloured ambient lighting, auto-adjusting HUD, three driving modes (Range, Everyday and Race), three ambient modes (Cozy, Calm or Cabin), and much more.
  • For safety, the EVs get up to seven airbags, ESC, hill hold assist, traction control, TPMS, front & rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, auto-park assist, and Level-2 ADAS tech, feauturing 5 radars and 1 vision system.

Technical Specifications

  • Underpinned by the new INGLO platform, which employs BYD’s blade cell technology and utilises what the brand calls a “compact 3-in-1 powertrain” that consists of a motor, an inverter and the transmission.
  • The SUVs will be offered in rear-wheel drive configuration in the initial phase. However, their dual-motor AWD versions could be introduced at a later stage.
  • Two battery pack options will be offered – 59 kWh and 79 kWh.
  • Speaking of the performance, both EVs make up to 288PS of max power and 380Nm of peak torque in the larger battery pack variants. The 59kWh unit comes with a 231PS motor.
  • Mahindra claims that the variant with a larger 79 kWh battery can offer an average range of around 500 km in the real world.
  • The XEV 9e can go from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.8 seconds, while the BE 6e will take around 6.7 seconds for the same.
  • Using a 175kW DC fast charger, the EVs can be charged from 20% to 80% in just 20 minutes.
  • Mahindra asserted that it will offer a lifetime battery warranty for these EVs. This will be applicable only for first owners (private registrations). For 2nd owners, the validity will ve up to 10 years/2 lakh kilometres.
  • Speaking of the dimensions, the BE 6e and XEV 9e are 4371mm and 4789mm long, respectively, with a wheelbase of 2775mm.

Variants and Price

Mahindra reveals that these SUVs will be offered in multiple packs. As of now, details of Pack One have been announced. The indicative ex-showroom price in Chennai for the BE 6e and XEV 9e will be around Rs 18.90 lakh and Rs 21.90 lakh.
