Triumph Speed 400 to Thruxton 400 Get New 350cc Motor

Soon after launching the Tracker 400, Triumph Motorcycles has now updated its entire 400 lineup, comprising Speed 400, Scrambler 400XC, Thruxton 400, and Speed T4, with the new 350cc engine. Interestingly, despite being powered by a smaller 350cc engine, the motorcycles continue to retain the “400” badge.

Before we move into the details, let’s first have a look at their revised prices: –

Triumph BikesOld Price New PriceCheaper By
Speed T4Rs 1,95,000Rs 1,95,000

Thruxton 400Rs 2,76,383Rs 2,65,538Rs 10,845 more affordable
  • As mentioned above, all of these bikes are powered by a new 349cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine with an 89mm bore and 56.1mm stroke. While the earlier unit had the same 89mm bore, the stroke length was 64mm.
  • The power output of this new engine differs depending on the model. To start with, the new Speed T4 produces 29hp at 7,500rpm and 31Nm at 5,500rpm, a slight drop from the outgoing 398.15cc single that makes 31hp at 7,000rpm and 36Nm at 5,000rpm.

  • The Speed 400, Scrambler 400 X, and Scrambler 400 XC now generate peak output figures of 37hp at 8,500rpm and 32Nm at 7,000rpm, down from the earlier 40hp at 8,000rpm and 37.5Nm at 6,500rpm. On the other hand, Thruxton 400 comes in the most powerful state of tune, producing 40hp at 8,750rpm and 32Nm at 7,500rpm. That’s similar to the newly launched Tracker 400.

While this smaller engine produces lower power and torque figures, the difference in real-world performance might not be that substantial.

Aside from the new engine and lowered prices, all the Triumph 400 series bikes remain unchanged. With no changes to styling, underpinnings and features, they continue to offer the same familiar experience, now at a more attractive price point.
