Land Rover Defender Drops V8 and PHEV Powertrains In India

The Land Rover Defender is no longer available with the V8 and PHEV powertrain in India. The SUV will now only be offered with the 2-litre petrol and 3-litre diesel engines.

For those unaware, the Land Rover Defender was previously available with five powertrain options, comprising a 2-litre petrol, a 3-litre petrol, a 3-litre diesel, a 5-litre V8 and a 2-litre plug-in hybrid. However, the current lineup has been streamlined and now only the 2-litre petrol and 3-litre diesel engines remain on sale in India.

Land Rover Defender OCTA price in India

The removal of the V8 and PHEV powertrains has resulted in a simpler range but also higher starting prices, as the base petrol variant in the 90 body style has been discontinued. The 3-litre diesel engine is offered across all three body styles and in three variants: X-Dynamic HSE, X, and Sedona Edition. This change reflects Land Roverโ€™s strategy to focus on the more popular models while maintaining variety in body styles and trims for Indian customers. However, it is worth noting that the newly introduced Defender Octa V8 edition is still available for order, but only in limited quantities.

The Defender continues to be a fully imported model, now priced between Rs 92.70 lakh and Rs 2.85 crore (ex-showroom).
