Jaguar Land Rover is set to launch the i-Pace electric offering in the Indian market on 9th March 2021. It will be the first electric offering from the Jaguar and the second luxury EV in our country after the Mercedes-Benz EQC. Pre-launch bookings for the SUV are already underway since November 2020.
2021 Jaguar I-Pace: Powertrain & Charging Capabilities
The all-electric Jaguar I-Pace will draw its power from the 90kWh battery, which will transfer the charge to two electric motors (one on each axle), beating out a combined power output of 400PS and a peak torque of 696Nm. The brand claims a driving range of 470km (as per the WLTP-rated cycle) with the I-Pace on a single charge. It can sprint from 0 to 100kmph in just 4.8 seconds till it reaches the top speed of 200kmph.
Here's how it fares against the Mercedes-Benz EQC: –
| Mercedes-Benz EQC | Jaguar I-Pace |
Battery Pack | 80kWh | 90kWh |
Max Power | 408PS | 400PS |
Max Torque | 760Nm | 696Nm |
WLTP-Claimed Range | 400km | 470km |
DC Fast Charging Speed (0-80%) | 40 minutes (0-70%) | 45 minutes |
Compared to the German offering, the I-Pace generates 8PS and 64Nm less output. However, the Jaguar offers a bigger battery pack that helps it to cover an extra 70km than the EQC. The charging capabilities of both the EVs are quite a par with each other, however, the Jaguar has an upper hand in terms of charging network, thanks to its partnership with Tata Power, which has set 200+ charging stations across 23+ major cities of the country, including Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, and Pune. Jaguar will also offer a 7.4kW wall box charger with the SUV that can juice it up from 0-100% in 13 hours. It is important to note that the i-PACE’s charging system comes with 150kW DC charging support.
