Toyota’s Creta Rivaling SUV Likely To Be Called Hyryder

Toyota’s upcoming Hyundai Creta-rivaling SUV (codenamed D22), also shared with Maruti Suzuki, is likely to be called “Hyryder” as the brand has recently trademarked this nomenclature in India. It is expected to be unveiled in June 2022, followed by a launch in the early second half of 2022. Its Maruti Suzuki counterpart (codenamed YFG), on the other hand, is likely to debut shortly after its arrival.

As its name, our expectations are also very high from the upcoming Toyota Hyryder that has been spied multiple times during testing. The SUV gets brawny proportions and will look different from its Maruti replica.

Toyota is likely to offer the Hyryder with a 1.5-liter petrol engine, linked to a self-charging strong hybrid system (expected to borrow from global-spec Yaris Cross) that is claimed to boost the engine’s fuel economy, thus, helping it to combat with oil burners from its competitors. For reference, the Toyota Yaris Cross has a claimed fuel economy of up to 26.32kmpl. Technology-wise, it is likely to be similar to Honda’s i-MMD hybrid powertrain

In terms of features, the SUV will be well loaded with premium features like a giant floating infotainment system, connected car technology, a sunroof, ventilated seats, a 360-degree surround view system, electronic stability control, and six airbags.

The Hyryder is likely to underpin the highly localized version of Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA), which is a derivative of Toyota’s TNGA architecture. And since it will be locally manufactured at Toyota’s Bidadi plant for both the carmakers, the brand could price it competitive against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, and Nissan Kicks.
