Kia EV6 To Launch On June 2

Korean carmaker Kia is all set to introduce its first electric offering for the Indian market in the form of EV6 on June 2, 2022. Only 100 units of the electrified crossover will be offered initially via the completely built-up unit (CBU) route. Interested customers will be able to book the EV from May 26.

Kia is likely to offer the EV6 in a sole GT Line variant, albeit in both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive options. It will be powered by a 77.4 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack with a claimed range of over 500 kilometers on a single charge. Here’s a look at its specifications: –

E-GMP platform

The Kia EV6 will be India’s first car to be based on Hyundai Group’s dedicated EV architecture called the E-GMP, which accommodates the large, flat battery pack between the axles, thus, offering a low center of gravity and better weight distribution, which further helps in improving the cornering, acceleration, and stability. This setup also creates a hump-free floor, sweetening the interior spaciousness. The upcoming Hyundai IONIQ 5 will also be based on the same platform.

Speaking of the features, the EV6 will come equppied with a dual-curved screen setup (one for infotainment and the other for instrument cluster), auto flush-fitting door handles, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, ventilated and powered front seats, 4-level regen braking with smart regen system, three engine sound modes, V2V and V2L support, various Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), and 8 airbags, including front middle airbags.

Expect Kia to price the EV6 between Rs 60 – 70 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it against the Volvo XC40 Recharge (Rs 75 lakh) and the upcoming Hyundai IONIQ 5.
