The British-Chinese marque MG Motor may soon launch the facelifted ZS EV in India. It will get some significant cosmetic changes, new features, and larger battery packs with an improved range. Recently, the updated electrified SUV was spotted testing on our roads for the first time.

Revealed last year in the UK, the MG ZS EV facelift will feature a redesigned front facia with a textured body-colored panel in place of the radiator grille and a revamped air dam. Similar to its recently launched petrol-powered model, i.e., the MG Astor, the air dam has a split in the center for the ADAS radar sensor. Besides, there will also be the refreshed LED head and tail lamps, redesigned bumpers, and new alloys with a turbine-like design.

Similar to the Astor, the upgraded ZS EV is likely to get premium soft-touch on the dashboard, a digital instrument cluster, a new 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity support, MG’s iSmart connected car tech with CAAP-based (Car-as-a-Platform) services, an updated climate control panel, 360-degree camera, and much more. It could also get the segment’s first dashboard-mounted personal AI assistant.

As mentioned above, the facelifted ZS EV will also get Level-2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) that will comprise several active safety features like Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Assist, Intelligent Headlamp Control (IHC), Rear Drive Assist (RDA), Speed Assist System, Blind-Spot Detection, etc.

Another significant change could be seen in a form of a new 51kWh battery in place of the ongoing 44.5kWh unit. This bigger battery pack will offer more juice over the current model’s claimed range of 419km. Globally, the facelifted ZS EV also gets a long-range version that comes with a 72kWh unit. However, we don’t expect it to make it to our shore.

Coming to the charging capabilities, the new ZS EV supports a 100-kW DC fast charger that takes just 42 minutes to fully charge the larger battery pack.

Expect the 2022 MG ZS EV to carry a hefty price premium over the existing model that is priced between Rs 20.99 lakh and Rs 24.18 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, it will rekindle its rivalry with Hyundai Kona Electric.
