The Tiguan is underpinned by VW’s MQB platform. It gets a few cosmetic updates and some new features over to its pre-facelift model. These include a new three-slate chrome grille, dual-barrel LED matrix IQ headlamps, refreshed 18-inch alloy wheels, reworked tail lamps and bumpers.
While the interior of the car remains largely unchanged, it gets a new fully digital driver’s display, a redesigned two-spoke steering wheel, a touchscreen interface for the tri-zone climate control and a 30-colour ambient lighting system. The other essential features include a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, connected car technology, cruise control, powered tailgate, an 8-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, rear AC vents, panoramic sunroof, slidable rear bench, six airbags, ESP (Electronic Stability Programme), hill start & descent assist, etc.
For 2021, the SUV has dropped the diesel engine. That said, the Tiguan will now be available with a new 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that churns out 190PS and 320Nm. The engine will be paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system. Once launched, the Tiguan will fight it out with Jeep Compass and Citroen C5 Aircross.
