The All-Electric BMW i4 Is Finally Here

The Bavarian Motor Works (BMW) has finally launched the all-electric i4 sedan in India at Rs 69.9 lakh (ex-showroom). Available in a sole eDrive40 rear-wheel-drive variant, the electrified sedan can be booked online via BMW’s official website. Its deliveries will start from July 2022. Globally, the i4 also comes in a more powerful M50 trim.

Powering the BMW i4 eDrive40 is a single 250kW synchronous e-motor that delivers 340PS and 430Nm of torque and comes mated to an 83.9kWh battery pack that is good enough in offering a WLTP-certified range of up to 590km. The EV can hit the century sprint in 5.7 seconds.

Talking about the charging capabilities, the EV can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in simply 31 minutes with the help of a 205kW DC fast charger. That said, you can energies the BMW i4 to run up to 164 km in only 10 minutes. However, the 11kW AC home charger takes around 8.5 hours for 0-100 percent. Further adding to charging convenience, the brand has established DC fast chargers at its dealerships in 34 major cities.

Speaking of the dynamics, the BMW i4’s silhouette is aerodynamically optimized for more pleasing driving dynamics. Its 50:50 weight distribution, low placement of the battery, long wheelbase, and short overhangs, helps in better handling, especially at the corners.

BMW i4 interior and features

In terms of features, the BMW i4 comes loaded with all the whistles and bells. The key highlight includes a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless smartphone integration support, a 464W 17-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, tri-zone climate control, powered front seats, ambient lighting, wireless smartphone charger, semi-automated parking assistant systems, air suspensions, powered tailgate, and much more.

Safety, on the other hand, is taken care of by six airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, stability control, dynamic traction control, and ISOFIX child seat mounts.

BMW has offered the i4 in three color options: Black Sapphire, Skyscraper Grey, and Mineral White.
