After a bunch of teaser images, Nissan has finally unveiled the concept model of its upcoming sub-compact SUV, Magnite. The name 'MAGNITE' is a fusion of two different words: 'Magnetic' & 'Ignite'. The production version of this SUV will hit the Indian market by January 2021. It will rival the Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSprot, Tata Nexon & upcoming Kia Sonnet.
Nissan Magnite: What does the concept reveal?
Nissan has revealed the Magnite concept through a video presentation. It sports a bold and rugged exterior design. Some of its design elements seem to take inspiration from existing Nissan-group cars i.e. its sleeker sweptback LED headlights remind off Nissan Kicks and its L-shaped LED DRLs have also been seen in entry-level Datsun Redi-go hatchback. However, these DRLs are sharper in Magnite and tilted towards the outer side. Also, it features Datsun-like octagonal grille. As a matter of fact, this car was supposed to come with a Datsun badging, but the plan was dumped later. However, the grille comprises blacked-out elements with Nissan's new logo, red accents & chrome surrounds. The red color highlights can also be seen on front brake calipers and skid plates.
Its chunky wheel arches, black cladding on the lower side, silver roofrails, and bold skid plates on both bumpers give it a rugged utility vehicle sense. Its blacked-out roof and ORVM enhance its sportiness.
It gets two-tone machine cut alloy wheels which look very premium. The rear bumper looks quite muscular, while the split LED taillights adding to its premiumness.
Overall, the exterior design of the Nissan Magnite concept looks very aggressive and sporty. It carries a crossover type silhouette like Nissan Kicks.
Interior And Features
Nissan has not taken wraps from its interior. But it would be as feature-rich as other cars in the segment. It is expected to come with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Nissan connect technology, auto climate control, cruise control, electric sunroof, segment-first 360-degree parking camera, and many more. Also, the brand has stated that it would be the most spacious car in its segment.
Expected Engine
Beneath the hood, it is likely to get the 1.0L natural aspirated petrol engine (72PS) from Renault Triber. It is also expected to come with the 1.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine (100PS). Both engines are expected to get a 5-speed manual transmission, while the turbo unit can also get the option of a CVT automatic transmission. The same powertrain option could also be seen in the upcoming Renault Kiger.
Expected Price
As affirmed by the company earlier, the upcoming Magnite SUV will be priced competitively. In fact, it could be the most affordable subcompact SUV. The starting price is expected to be around Rs. 5.5-6 lakh.
