Once again, the Toyota Kirloskar India has teased its upcoming Urban Cruiser SUV. This time the front grille is completely visible with a glimpse of its bumper, fog lamps, and headlights as well. If you had not seen the first teaser of Toyota's SUV, click here.
About the Toyota Urban Cruiser
Urban Cruiser will be the first sub-4meter SUV from the Japnese carmaker. It will be a rebadged version of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and will come as a second product from the Toyota-Suzuki partnership. Like the Glanza (rebadge version of Baleno), it will also be manufactured by Maruti Suzuki for Toyota.
Toyota Urban Cruiser: What does the new teaser reveal?
The latest teaser image of the Urban Cruiser confirms that Toyota has made a few changes in the front design of the car. It will not completely resemble its donor model. It will feature two black parallel inserts, flanked by tilted chrome garnishing elements. This looks somewhat similar to the Toyota Fortuner's grille.
The bumper of the car seems more aggressively styled than the Vitara Brezza. Toyota has also redesigned the fog lamp housing, having chrome finishing on its surrounding. However, the silhouette of the car, design of the alloy wheels and headlamps seems identical to the Vitara Brezza.
Will it carry more distinct elements?
Apart from the element mentioned above, it is likely to feature distinguishable tail lamp design from the Maruti's offering. Also, it is expected to get different exterior paint options, which will give it its individual personality. Moreover, the color scheme inside the cabin could be distinct and more vivid.
Like the Glanza, Toyota could again play its warranty card by offering better warranty options compared to its donor car.
Bookings are expected to start soon
Toyota is gearing up to launch the Urban Cruiser SUV in the forthcoming festive season. But ahead of the launch, Toyota will start the pre-booking by the end of the August month.
Expected Engine & Gearbox
The Urban Cruiser will be powered by the Maruti Suzuki's 1.5-litre petrol engine (105PS/138Nm) that also powers Vitara Brezza as well as Ciaz, XL6 and Ertiga. This engine will be offered with a choice of a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The automatic variants could also get the Suzuki's mild-hybrid system for better fuel-efficiency.
Expected Price Range & Rivals
Like the Glanza, Toyota can adopt the same strategy to introduce the Urban Cruiser in limited but features loaded variants. Hence, we believe its ex-showroom prices to start around Rs 8 lakh that will go up to Rs 11.5 lakh for the top-spec.
In the sub-4m SUV space, it will lock horns with Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Mahindra XUV300, Ford EcoSport and upcoming Nissan Magnite & Kia Sonet.
