New Tata Tigor EV With ZIPTRON Powertrain To Launch Soon

After introducing the updated Tigor EV (called Xpres-T) for fleet customers, Tata Motors is now gearing up to launch its more private-owner-centric version that will come with a host of additional features and a much more powerful ZIPTRON powertrain.

Currently, India's best-selling EV, the Nexon is being offered with the ZIPTRON powertrain. It gets a 129PS permanent magnet synchronous motor that draws its charge from the 30.2 kW lithium-ion battery and delivers a peak output of 245Nm. While the new Tigor EV is expected to get the same battery pack, its electric motor could be detuned to produce around 100PS.

According to ARAI, the Nexon EV has a range of 312km on a single charge. That is 107km more than the existing model of Tigor EV.

The new Tigor electric should offer a top speed closer to the 120kmph mark. It could also get the CCS2 charging port as standard, which will enable it to access India’s swiftly expanding EV fast-charging network. Besides, Tata could also offer 8 years / 1.6 lakh km warranty on its battery & motor.

As far as its design is concerned, the cosmetical changes for the updated Tigor EV will be in line with the petrol-powered Tigor, which received a facelift update last year. However, to differentiate it from its ICE version, it will further get differently-designed alloy wheels and a few EV-specific styling elements such as a closed-off grille, blue stripes, and ‘EV’ badging on the front, side, and rear profiles of the car.

In terms of features, the new Tigor EV could retain all the features of its ICE counterpart that mainly includes a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a premium sound system from Harman, height-adjustable driver's seat, multifunction steering wheel, a digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, keyless entry with push-button start/stop, projector headlamps, LED DRLs, dual-front airbags, rear parking camera, and more.

Expect the 2021 Tata Tigor EV to undercut the Tata Nexon EV on price, which currently retails from Rs 13.99 lakh to Rs 16.85 lakh (ex-showroom).
