New Renault Duster To Make A Comeback on Republic Day 2026

Renault India has confirmed the return of the iconic Duster SUV that redefined India’s mid-size SUV segment back in 2012. The brand confirmed that the new Duster will be revealed on the upcoming Republic Day, January 26, 2026.

For those unaware, the first-gen Duster was discontinued in 2022 due to gradually declining sales caused by increased competition. Interestingly, the second and third-generation versions never made it to Indian shores. Now, it will be offered in an all-new, fourth-generation avatar with a more modern design, advanced features and a stronger road presence. It will be pitted against the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Victoris and Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, MG Astor, Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun.

New Renault Duster

Why Duster Was Popular

The Duster was the first mid-size SUV to combine rugged styling, strong performance, and car-like comfort at an affordable price. It offered high ground clearance, excellent ride quality, and a powerful diesel engine that made it ideal for both city driving and long trips. Its spacious cabin and practical design appealed to Indian families, while its elevated stance gave it a premium feel compared to hatchbacks and sedans in the same price range.

New Renault Duster 2026 – What to Expect?

The new Renault Duster will be the brand’s first car to be launched in India as its International Game Plan 2027 and will serve as a vital step to its “renault.rethink” product strategy. While it’s not official, it is expected to share its platform with the upcoming Nissan Tekton.

Globally, the Renault Duster is available with three engine options: a 1-litre LPG (100PS/170Nm), a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol with mild-hybrid (130PS/230Nm), and a 1.6-litre strong hybrid (145PS/205Nm). While the 1.3-litre unit gets an all-wheel drivetrain, the other two come with a front-wheel-drive system. We expect both the 1.3-litre and 1.6-litre engines to make their way to our shores. It is unlikely to get the K9K diesel engine from its predecessor.

Regarding features, the new Duster will be loaded with tons of premium amenities, including a digital driver’s display, a larger floating touchscreen infotainment with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, auto AC, rear AC vents, panoramic sunroof, multi drive modes, a wireless charger, a 360-degree camera and a level-2 ADAS suite.

It is expected to be offered in both 5- and 7-seater versions.
