Last week, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd announced its entry into the metaverse with the first-ever Thar NFTs (four NFTs were offered). The brand put it on sale via an auction starting on March 29 on Tech Mahindra’s NFT marketplace called ‘Mahindra Gallery’, and within three days, the automaker raised bids worth Rs 26 lakh. The highest bid received for a single NFT was Rs 11 lakh.
As earlier promised, Mahindra will donate all the funds raised from the Thar NFTs auction to ‘Project Nanhi Kali’ for the education of underprivileged girls in India. Also, the winner of the auction will be invited to the Mahindra Adventure Off-road Driver Training Academy situated in Igatpuri (Maharashtra) or to the new Mahindra SUV Proving Track (MSPT), Chennai to experience the rush of 4×4 motoring.

For those who aren’t aware, the Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) are digital assets that represent real-world objects such as art, music, collectibles, GIFs, video, etc. These are stored on a blockchain (a digital ledger on which the sale & purchase of NFTs is recorded) and come with exclusive ownership rights. The Mahindra is the second automotive OEM to offer NFTs (the first as an Indian carmaker) after MG Motors.
