Mahindra Scorpio To Get A New Base Variant S3+

Mahindra & Mahindra is working on the next-generation models of Scorpio, which will be launched by the end of 2021. But before the debut of the new model, Mahindra will introduce a new base variant of the current-gen Scorpio called 'S3+'. Currently, the Mahindra Scorpio SUV is available in four trims: S5, S7, S9, and S11.

As per the leaked document of the Delhi Transport Department, the new S3+ variant will be offered in 7, 8, and 9-seater configurations. The 8-and 9-seater model will get side-facing seats in the last row. On the power front, the S3+ trim will also house the same 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine with micro-hybrid technology, but in a detuned state (20PS and 40Nm less). The oil burner will make out 120PS and 280Nm and will come paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox, whereas the other variants get a 6-speed manual unit. Earlier, the S7 variant also used to come with the same 120PS version of this engine before it was discontinued in April 2020 during the BS6 transition.

As far as the features are concerned, the upcoming Scorpio S3+ variant is likely to get a feature-cut over the S5 trim. However, it will retain some of the basic equipment such as manual AC, manual ORVM, power steering, front power windows, tilt steering, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, etc. We believe this particular trim will also miss body coloured ORVMs and bumpers.

Currently, the Mahindra Scorpio retails from Rs 12.68 lakh to Rs 16.53 lakh (ex-showroom). Except the new S3+ variant to be priced around Rs 12 lakh. In the body-on-frame SUV segment, the Scorpio does not have any direct rival. However, in terms of pricing, it is positioned against the likes of Nissan Kicks, Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, and Kia Seltos
