Mahindra Could Use XUV400 Moniker For XUV300 Electric

We all know that Mahindra will launch thirteen new cars by 2027 out of which six will be electric SUVs including two dedicated battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) and electric versions of XUV700, XUV300, V201, and W620 (codenamed). Now, in a recent press conference, Rajesh Jejurikar, executive director, auto and farm sectors at Mahindra Group, said that they could use the XUV400 moniker for the electrified version of XUV300. He said that it's an opportunity for them to name it differently. However, this is still a codename.

Mahindra XUV300 electric (eXUV300)

Originally, the XUV400 nameplate was planned for the all-new mid-size SUV that was to sit between the XUV300 and now-discontinued XUV500 in Mahindra’s line-up. It was supposed to be based on Ford’s B-platform. However, the Mahindra-Ford joint venture was called-off, and hence Mahindra could now use this moniker for a different model.

For those who aren't aware, Mahindra had showcased the eXUV300 at the 2020 Auto Expo in a concept avatar. Underpinned on the Mahindra Electric Scalable and Modular Architecture (MESMA) platform, Mahindra had announced that it would be targeting different price brackets with two advanced lithium-ion battery packs (developed by LG Chem).

Mahindra is expected to launch the eXUV300 (XUV400) in 2024. Its prices are likely to start from around Rs 15 lakh, putting it against the largest selling EV of the country, the Tata Nexon EV.
