1. Goal: – The revised EV policy of Maharashtra strives to promote rapid adoption of EVs among individual/private buyers through a slew of incentives and privileges for the customers. With this, the state government is aiming at a 10% contribution of electric vehicles to new vehicle registrations by 2025. It comprises at least 5% four-wheelers, 10% of two-wheelers, 20% three-wheelers, and 25% of the urban fleet operators like e-com companies, last-mile operators, and logistic players that are intended to move to EVs by 2025.
2. Revised Incentives: – Maharashtra government will offer total incentives of up to Rs 44,000 on electric two-wheelers. This includes a basic incentive of Rs 10,000, an early-bird incentive of Rs 15,000 (if you buy an electric 2-wheeler with a 3kWh battery before December 31, 2021), assured buyback, battery warranty incentives of Rs 12,000, and a scrappage incentive of Rs 7,000 for those who scrap their old vehicle for an EV. Total incentives of Rs 29,000 will be offered on vehicles purchased after December 31, 2021.
On electric cars & SUVs, the total incentive has been capped at Rs 2.75 lakh. This includes a basic incentive of Rs 1.5 lakh, an early-bird incentive of Rs 1 lakh, a scrappage incentive of Rs 25,000. After 31st December 2021, the subsidies on electric 4-wheelers will be reduced to Rs 1.75 lakh as the early-bird incentive is only valid till the end of this year. It is important to note that the basic incentive for EVs starts from Rs 5,000 per kWh but the limit has been capped at 30kWh for electric cars.
On the other hand, the govt incentives on electric three-wheelers range from Rs 57,000 to Rs 92,000.
3. No Road Tax on EVs: – All electric vehicles shall be exempted from the road tax and renewal of registration certificate, which will ultimately decrease their on-road prices.
