Hyundai i20 N Line Hot Hatch Breaks Cover, Bookings Open Officially

Hyundai Motors India has finally introduced its N performance brand in the country with the i20 N Line. Bookings for the sportier Hyundai i20 have begun officially for a token amount of Rs 25,000 at Hyundai’s Signature dealerships or via its official website ahead of its expected launch in September.

Hyundai i20 N-Line – How it is different from the standard model?

The N Line Hyundai cars are basically the sportier versions of their standard models that feature distinctive styling and performance bits setting them apart from standard trims. That said, the Hyundai i20 N Line gets a slew of cosmetic changes inside and out to give it a sporty appearance, which is followed by a sportier suspension setup to suit its character and a hearty exhaust note for an added thrill.

Hyundai i20 N Line – Exterior

Compared to the regular model of Hyundai i20, its N Line version gets a new “chequered flag” grille with the ‘'N'’ logo, sportier front bumper with lip spoiler & red inserts, and a new fog lamp housing. There are also newly designed dual-tone 16-inch alloy wheels with N badging, red brake calipers, and side skirts with an N-exclusive red strip at its bottom.

The rear also features a sportier bumper with a faux diffuser and chrome twin exhaust muffler, along with a tailgate spoiler with side wings and a dark chrome garnishing connecting the LED tail lamps.

The Korean carmaker has offered the i20 N Line in four single-tone body shades – Thunder Blue, Fiery Red, Titan Grey, and Polar White. The first two ivories are also available with a blacked-out roof, pillars, and wing mirrors (ORVMs) options that add a pleasant touch to its overall appearance.

Hyundai i20 N Line – Interior & Features

Inside, the special touches include N-branded elements on a new 3-spoke steering wheel, leather gear knob, and leatherette seats, etc. Also part of the package is the sporty metal pedals, an all-black interior with red highlights, and red ambient lighting.

In terms of features, it comes with all the whistles and bells of the standard model that majorly includes automatic LED projector headlamps, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, BlueLink connected car technology, 7-speaker Bose sound system, cruise control, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, smart entry with push-button start, wireless smartphone charging, a single-pane electric sunroof, puddle lamps with ‘welcome’ function and a fully digital instrument cluster that now provides a little more information such as park distance warning, and turn-by-turn navigation. It will also get new voice commands to control various in-car functions such as the driver side window controls, live soccer scores, electric sunroof, navigation, contact information, etc. Hyundai is also offering up to 31 accessories for the sporty hatchback.

Safety, on the other hand, is taken care of by six airbags, ABS with EBD, tire pressure monitoring system, electronic stability control, hill assist, vehicle stability management, rear parking sensors with camera, etc.

Hyundai i20 N Line – Performance

The i20 N Line will source power from the 1.0-liter T-GDI, inline 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine generating maximum power of 120PS and a peak torque of 172Nm. As for the transmission, there are two options to choose from, the first is a 7-speed wet DCT and the other is a 6-speed iMT (clutchless manual), driving the front wheels. The said powerplant claimed to offer energetic performance with a smooth and comfortable driving experience, all this with excellent frugality. The ARAI-claimed figures for this engine with DCT and iMT are 20.25kmpl and 20kmpl, respectively. It takes 9.9 seconds to complete the century sprint from a standstill.

The spirited performance of the hot hatch is further supported by a stiffer suspension setup for better handling and high-speed cornering stability. Besides, it also gets a sportier exhaust note and added disc brakes to the rear for extra stopping power.

Hyundai i20 N Line – Expected Price and Competitors

The Hyundai i20 N Line will be sold via the carmaker’s Signature outlets. It is expected to be priced at a premium of around Rs 1 lakh over the standard top-spec Asta (O) turbo-DCT variant, which is currently priced at Rs 11.40 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Once launched, it will go up against the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI.
