FASTag Annual Pass: Everything You Need To Know About

Back in June 2025, the Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways (MoRTH) announced the FASTag-based Annual Pass scheme for private, non-commercial vehicle owners, and now the scheme has come into effect. It is an non-mandatory scheme that allows limited free passage of private vehicles on select national highways and expressways just by paying an annual fee. So, if you’re also planning to get the FASTag annual pass, here’s everything you need to know about: –

What Is a FASTag Annual Pass?

The FASTag annual subscription lets private car/jeep/van owners pay Rs 3,000 for up to 200 crossings (or one year, whichever comes first), ensuring hassle-free and cost-effective toll payments. This means they won’t have to pay the full toll amount every time just to reach their destinations.

Validity of Annual Pass

  • The Annual Pass will be valid for one year or 200 crossings from the date of activation, whichever comes first.
  • Once the vehicle with an Annual Pass completes either 200 crossings or one year, it will automatically revert to a regular FASTag.
  • Users can reactivate the Annual Pass by paying the associated charges/fees.

How Will Be The Crossings Calculated?

  • Every time you pass through a toll gate, it is counted as one crossing at point-based toll plazas, so going and returning (to and fro) counts as two crossings.
  • In the case of closed tolling plazas (those on expressways), one complete trip — starting from an entry point and ending at an exit point — is counted as one crossing, regardless of how many plazas you pass in between.
  • If you have a monthly/local pass for the toll plaza near your area, those crossings will not be counted under the Annual Pass.

Is the Annual Pass Valid On All Highways and Expressways?

  • The pass is valid only at National Highways (NH) and National Expressways (NE).
  • At toll plazas operated by state governments or local bodies, the Annual Pass benefits will not apply, and the user will have to pay the normal toll charges from their FASTag wallet balance.

Can an Annual Pass Be Used On Commercial Vehicles?

  • The FATSag Annual Pass is only for non-commercial, privately registered vehicles such as cars, jeeps and vans.
  • Commercial vehicles are not valid for this scheme.
  • If a FASTag with an Annual Pass is found being used on another vehicle, it will lead to its deactivation.
Note: The Annual Pass will only be issued to the FASTag updated with the Vehicle Registration Number (VRN). So, if you're FASTag registered only with a chassis number, you must update the VRN to activate the Annual Pass.

How To Get An Annual FASTag Pass?

  • The Annual Pass can be purchased/activated only on the Rajmargyatra mobile application and the NHAI website.
  • It needs to be verified with the vehicle details and the associated FASTag.
  • Upon successful verification, the user must pay the fee of Rs 3,000 via UPI, debit or credit card, or net banking. The fee cannot be paid using the FASTag wallet balance.
  • Once the payment is done, the Annual Pass will be activated on the registered FASTag.

Author’s Take

The FASTag Annual Subscription is good move for those who travel frequently within a fixed region, allowing users a hassle-free, seamless cost-effective travel without worrying about the recurring toll charges. However, the Rs 3,000 charges is a base price for year 2025-26 and might increase next year.
