Dashcams Over Airbags? New Survey Reveals What Indian Drivers Really Want

In today’s era, customer preferences are evolving rapidly, and consumer surveys serve as an excellent tool for gauging public sentiments on specific topics. One such survey, conducted by the Park+ Research Labs, reveals that dashcams have emerged as the most demanded safety features among consumers.

The study’s sample size comprised 3,000 customers across Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Bengaluru, and some of the key takeaways from this digital survey are as follows: –

  • In a surprising twist, 48% of survey respondents said they want front and rear dashcams to be made compulsory in all new cars — more than those who prioritised 6 airbags or crash safety ratings. This marks a clear shift in consumer mindset, with modern buyers placing greater emphasis on real-time protection and post-incident evidence tools due to growing urban challenges like road rage, unsafe driving behaviours and hit-and-run cases.
  • Following dashcams, 32% of participants ranked Bharat NCAP 5-star ratings as their most valued safety feature. While structural integrity remains important, it’s now seen more as a basic expectation rather than a key differentiator in new vehicles.

  • Only 10% of respondents picked 6 airbags, and just 8% selected all-wheel disc brakes as must-have safety features. This reflects growing confidence that OEMs are already offering these features, and consumers now want smarter, more proactive safety tech to take centre stage.
  • A mere 2% cited features outside of these primary safety parameters, indicating a clear consumer focus on protection and practicality.

The survey highlights how today’s car buyers are increasingly informed and tech-savvy, demanding features that not only prevent accidents but also provide critical assistance during and after an incident.
