Name Change For Volvo XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge

In order to standardise its electric vehicle lineup, Swedish carmaker Volvo has changed its naming nomenclature for its EV and plug-in hybrid vehicles globally. The carmaker has removed the โ€˜Rechargeโ€™ badging from its global lineup of EVs and rechristened the XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge as EX40 and EC40, respectively. On the other hand, the plug-in-hybrids will now feature โ€˜T6โ€™ or โ€˜T8โ€™ suffixes for varying power outputs.

Volvo strives for clearer customer understanding with new names for upcoming models as part of their electric car vision by 2030. But itโ€™s worth noting that they remain XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge for now in India, with changes expected later.

Fun Fact: In 1995, Volvo introduced its current nomenclature, featuring โ€˜Sโ€™ for sedans, โ€˜Vโ€™ for estates, โ€˜Cโ€™ for hatchbacks and coupes, and โ€˜XCโ€™ for SUVs, followed by a size-based number.

Performance Package For EX40 and EC40

Apart from renaming, Volvo has also introduced an optional Performance Software Package for the twin-motor versions of the EX40 and EC40 that churns out 34PS of additional power. Volvo promised โ€œfaster accelerationโ€ for the models but did not specify the reduction in their previous 0-100kmph time, which was 4.7 seconds. Itโ€™s also not clear about the impact of additional performance on their range.

Currently, the Volvo XC40 Recharge costs at Rs 57.90 lakh, while the C40 Recharge is priced at Rs 62.95 lakh (both prices, ex-showroom).
