As of 6 July 2021, 350 EV charging stations have been set up throughout the country under the FAME II (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and EV) scheme – revealed by Krishan Pal Gurjar, the Minister of State for Heavy Industries, on July 20, at the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament.

For those who aren't aware, the FAME-II scheme came into effect on 1st April 2019 for a period of 5 years (earlier it was supposed to end by 2022). With total budgetary support of Rs 10,000 crores, it aims to boost the sales of electric vehicles and the development of EV compatible infrastructure in the country.
During the parliament session, Krishan Pal Gurjar has also revealed that his department had sanctioned about 520 charging stations/infrastructure worth Rs 43.4 crore under Phase-I of the FAME scheme, which was introduced in April 2015. And a total of 3,61,000 electric vehicles have been incentivized (Rs 600 crore) from April 2015 to 9th July 2021. The minister has also stated that 862 electric buses (accounting for an incentive amount of about Rs 492 crore) have been deployed till June 30, 2021.

Furthermore, a total of 2,636 charging stations will be set up under the FAME II scheme amounting to Rs 500 crore across 68 cities in India. Of these, 1,633 will be fast chargers, while the rest 1,003 stations will be regular chargers. Their state/UT-wise division is as follows: –

The FAME-II phase also focuses on promoting electrification of public & shared transportation through subsidies.
