2020 Hyundai i20 To Get A New Base Variant

The newly launched 3rd generation Hyundai i20's prices have disappointed its prospective buyers who were waiting for its launch eagerly. Although Hyundai has tried its best to justify its hefty price tag, but in a price-sensitive market like India, the cost of any product is extremely crucial. Hence, Hyundai is now gearing up to introduce a new & more affordable base variant of the i20 premium-hatch and it is likely to be termed as the "Era" variant.

An RTO document revealed about this move as the Korean brand has recently registered the base-spec Era trim of the new i20.

Currently, the 2020 Hyundai i20 has priced between Rs 6.80 lakh and Rs 11.18 lakh (ex-showroom). The upcoming Era base-spec trim is likely to cost around Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom). It is expected to offer only the 1.2-liter petrol engine (83PS/114Nm) and 5-speed manual gearbox. Also, the leaked document suggested that it will be 80kg lighter than the Magna variant. It clearly means that it will omit a lot of equipment. We believe it will barely get only essentials features such as a manual AC, power steering, front power windows, halogen headlamps, steel wheels, manually adjustable ORVMs, dual airbags, ABS with EBD, seat belt reminder, and rear parking sensors.

It won't get the petrol-CVT choice as well as the 1.0-liter turbo-petrol and 1.5-liter diesel engine options.

With the launch of the Hyundai i20 Era variant, it will fight more effectively against its rivals like the Maruti Baleno, Honda Jazz, VW Polo, and Tata Altroz, as the starting price of all these cars is much lower than the i20.
