FASTags Will Be Mandatory For All Cars From January 2021

Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has made FASTags compulsory for all four-wheelers from 1st January 2021. This will also be applicable to M and N category motor vehicles, which have been sold before December 1, 2017. Until now, FASTags was legally mandated only for vehicles sold from December 2017 onwards.

FASTag will also be necessary for fitness certificate & insurance renewal

Along with making FASTag mandatory for all four-wheelers, it has also been made compulsory to renew fitness certificate and insurance, so that people follow this step seriously and get FASTags for their vehicle. This will be done through a revision in the insurance certificate, where details of Fastag ID will be entered. This decision will be effective from 1 April 2021.

About FASTag

FASTag is a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag that helps to pay the tolls through an electronic payment medium. When a vehicle with Fastag passes through the toll plaza, an RFID scanner automatically deducts the toll tax from the prepaid wallet or savings accounts linked with Fastag.

fastag benefits

The FASTag system was introduced to decrease the long queues at toll plazas across the country as it allows fast movement of traffic through toll booths by eliminating the requirement to stop for cash payment.
