Rolls Royce’s First Ultra-Luxury EV Revealed – Spectre

  • The Rolls-Royce Spectre is the World’s first Ultra-Luxury Electric Super Coupé.
  • Based on ‘Architecture of Luxury’, it’s a spiritual successor to Phantom Coupé.
  • Its deliveries will commence in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Rolls-Royce Spectre, the marque’s first all-electric offering, has finally made its global debut. It’s a two-door luxury electric coupe and the brand calls it a spiritual successor to the Phantom Coupe. It will begin reaching customers in late 2023.

Rolls-Royce Spectre: Design and Features

A long bonnet, a wide grille, a clean profile and a fastback tail make the Spectre instantly identifiable as a Rolls-Royce. It has the widest grille ever presented on a Rolls-Royce, flanked by a first for Rolls-Royce split headlamps that comprise 22 LEDs for soft illumination at night. The brand claims that the grille has been designed for better aerodynamic efficiency and its bonnet swoops down to the grille. In fact, the carmaker has also revised the Spirit Of Ecstacy to make it more aero-optimised. Further, the fastback tail, combined with the seamless glasshouse, helps improve aerodynamic efficiency. All these elements, help it in providing a drag coefficient of 0.25, making it the most aerodynamic Rolls-Royce ever.

In profile, its gently sloping roofline, a prominent shoulder line and the yachts’ inspired lower line (called the ‘waft line’) give it an elegant look. Also, its 23-inch wheels are the largest ever fitted to any two-door Rolls-Royce.

Measuring 5.45 metres in length and over 2 metres in width, the Spectre underpins Rolls Royce’s all-aluminium spaceframe architecture called ‘Architecture of Luxury’. The brand claims that it is 30% more stiffer than any other Rolls-Royce car. It also features active suspension and four-wheel steering.

Rolls-Royce Spectre cabin and features

Inside, the car showcases the Roll-Royce Ghost-like dashboard design. As a new feature, the starlight liner, which has previously been offered only on the roof, is now also available on the door pads. More interestingly, the Spectre nameplate on the dashboard is surrounded by a cluster of over 5,500 tiny LED stars that are invisible when the car is off.

The biggest talking point about the Rolls Royce Spectre’s interior is the brand’s new digital interface platform called the ‘Spirit’, permitting customers to control all functions of the car remotely through connected car technology. With the Spirit software, Rolls-Royce also offers bespoke services where the dial colours can be customized to match the interior.

Rolls-Royce Spectre: Powertrain

Spectre’s electric powertrain produces 585 horsepower and 900Nm, sending power to all four wheels. The brand claims that it can sprint from 0 to 100kph in 4.5 seconds, which is extremely impressive for a car weighing almost three tonnes. The battery specifications of the Rolls-Royce Spectre is yet to be revealed. However, the preliminary data suggests the Spectre will offer a driving range of 520km per charge.

Will it launch in India?

Well, the brand hasn’t made any official announcement regarding this. However, it is expected to hit our shores sometime in 2024.
