New Mahindra Scorpio Spotted Undisguised For The First Time; Exterior Revealed

Mahindra is expected to unveil the new generation Scorpio in June 2022. While the homegrown SUVmaker has been teasing us with glimpses of the upgraded SUV, the undisguised spy images of the new model have been leaked online.

The styling of the third-gen Mahindra Scorpio is a complete departure from the outgoing model and seems dimensionally bigger than its predecessor. While it retains its boxy silhouette, it has a more upright stance. At the front, the SUV features six chrome slats grille with the old Mahindra logo taking the center place. However, its final version will feature the new logo that debuted with the XUV700.

Flanking the grille are dual-barrel LED projector headlamps that are connected by a chrome strip. Furthermore, the front bumper gets a wide central air intake with a honeycomb mesh pattern, sharp creases, LED fog lamps with C-shaped DRLs, and a faux skid plate, along with black cladding.

On the sides, the new character line gives the SUV a more assertive appeal. There’s also the trademarked kink around the C-pillar and black cladding on the wheel arches & doors. However, its V-shaped 10-spoke alloy wheels look small for the D-segment SUV.

At the rear, the new Scorpio features Volvo-like vertically stacked LED taillamps, a new design for the side-hinged door, and a sleek black bumper that houses the rear fog lamps and a faux skid plate. There’s also a sleek chrome strip running across the width of the car.

Talking about the interior, it has already been leaked earlier. It will sport an all-new dashboard design with tons of physical buttons on the central console for climate control and infotainment system. Unlike the ongoing model, the interior of the car will be finished in a black-&-brown dual-tone color scheme and will get a host of new features such as a bigger touchscreen infotainment system, connected car tech, semi-digital instrument cluster with a 7-inch color MID, a single-pane electric sunroof, roof-mounted speakers, dual-zone climate control, wireless smartphone charger, multiple drive/terrain modes, etc.

Safety, on the other hand, is expected to be taken care of by multiple airbags, electronic stability control, all-wheel disc brakes, ABS with EBD, tire pressure monitoring system, rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera.

Mahindra is expected to offer the new Scorpio in both 6-and 7-seat configurations.

In terms of mechanicals, the 2022 Mahindra Scorpio is likely to feature the 2.2-liter diesel and 2.0-liter turbo-petrol, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Similar to the ongoing model, the diesel engine is expected to come in two states of tune, including 130PS for lower variants. Select variants of the new Scorpio will also come with a 4WD system, along with a low-range transfer case.
