German automaker Volkswagen has finally launched the long-awaited Tiguan facelift in the Indian market. Available in a fully-loaded ‘Elegance’ variant, the 5-seater SUV is priced at Rs 31.99 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom India), making it Rs 2.21 lakh more affordable than the recently axed VW Tiguan Allspace (7-seater).
Unlike the pre-facelift model, the new VW Tiguan is a petrol-only offering, comprising a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine instead of the 2.0-liter diesel mill. This new gasoline motor drives all four wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic (DCT) and is proficient enough in generating 190PS of maximum power and 320Nm of peak torque.
Speaking of the styling, the updated Tiguan has received a new front fascia with an updated bumper, sportier LED dual-barrel LED matrix IQ headlamps, refreshed 18-inch alloy wheels, reworked L-shaped tail lights with the Tiguan lettering in the center.
Inside, it gets VW ID-inspired new flat-bottom steering wheel, a digital driver’s display, 30-colour ambient lighting, and a touch-based interface for the tri-zone climate control system. The other notable features of the upgraded SUV includes an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car tech, panoramic sunroof, powered driver’s seat with memory function, auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, cruise control, electric parking brake with auto-hold function, six airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, hill start & decent assist, front & rear parking sensors, rearview camera, and much more.
The Volkswagen Tiguan goes up against the Jeep Compass and Citroen C5 Aircross.
