Toyota Extends Battery Warranty On Self-Charging Hybrid Electric Models

On the occasion of “World Nature Conservation Day", Japanese carmaker Toyota has announced the extension of battery warranty for its self-charging hybrid electric vehicles (SHEV) from the existing 3-years / 1 lakh kilometers to 8-years / 1.60 lakh kilometers (whichever comes earlier). The brand says that it has taken this step to encourage the adoption of electrified vehicles. This new warranty scheme will apply to all new models sold from August 1, 2021.

At present, Toyota Kirloskar Motor offers two self-charging hybrid-electric models in India – Toyota Camry executive sedan and Toyota Vellfire luxury MPV. Existing customers of these flagship offerings who have purchased either vehicle after January 2019 can avail the extended warranty benefits at a special offer price.

For those who aren't aware, the Toyota Camry Hybrid comes with a 2.5-liter, 4-cylinder petrol engine, paired with an 88kW electric motor. The engine makes 178PS of power at 5,700rpm and 221Nm of torque at 3,600-5,200rpm. On the other hand, the electric motor is rated at 120PS and 202Nm. The combined power output for Camry is 218PS in hybrid mode with a claimed mileage of 23.87kmpl. It is also capable of operating purely on battery power as well.

The hybrid system of both these Toyota SHEVs charges itself up using brake regeneration technology. Also, both models come with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
