  • Hyundai, as usual, occupies the second spot with 2 entrants into the top 10.
  • Kia’s compact SUV, Seltos occupies the tenth position with a decent sales number.

July 2020 Vs July 2019 sales

Now we know, that the sales have witnessed a significant rise as compared to the last month, one interesting way to get the idea of sales number would be, comparing the yearly growth/decline for the same month

It is not fair to paint the entire picture, after going by the sales performance of only the top 10 selling cars, but we believe it is good enough to give a fair bit of idea.

  • Most of the cars have witnessed growth, which of course is a good sign.
  • Grand i10 has witnessed a whopping growth in sales numbers, reflecting the fact that even after the COVID pandemic has significantly affected the auto sector, things are definitely on the improvement curve.
  • Three Maruti cars happen to be the only ones which saw a decline in the corresponding sales number from the present and the yesteryear.
  • Kia Seltos, which hit the dealerships in early August 2019, has done superbly well and continues to sell well giving tough time to its cousin concern, Hyundai Creta

Author’s Take

We don’t have a clear indication of what new normal would look like in the post COVID world,  one can start sensing industries are getting back onto the track. As far as the automotive sector is concerned, it has not enjoyed the most glorious time in the last couple of years, the global slump was bad and as soon as the industry started showing signs of recovery, COVID-19 pandemic hit it and made the matters worse.

As the article suggests, the month of July 2020, did not only show considerable progress over June 2020, in terms of sales number, when we put forward the numbers and did the maths to compare the yearly growth, we saw that the sales numbers have almost caught up with last year numbers which surely is a positive sign.
