Tesla Recalls 4.75 Lakh Units Of Model 3 And Model S Over Safety Issues

Tesla Inc. is recalling more than 4.75 lakh units of the Model 3 and Model S to address certain safety-related issues that could increase the risk of a crash. As per America's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a total of 356,309 and 119,009 units of the Model 3 (manufactured between 2017 to 2020) and Model S (retailed from 2014 to 2021) are subject to the recall over rear-view camera problem and front trunk problems, respectively.

NHTSA has stated that the cable of the rear-view camera in the Model 3 can get damaged by repeated opening and closing of the boot, containing the camera from displaying images on the screen.

For Model S, the issue with latch assembly for the front trunk may lead the trunk to open without warning, which can obstruct the driver’s visibility, thus, raising the chances of a mishap.

Commenting on the issues, Tesla has stated that they haven't reported any crashes, injuries, or deaths related to the issues with its Model 3 and Model S electric cars.

In other updates, the NHTSA is in talks with Tesla about side-view camera issues in some vehicles. The NHTSA was also investigating 5,80,000 Tesla vehicles over the automaker's decision to allow games to be played on car screens while moving. However, Tesla has reportedly agreed to remove such gaming features. In August, the NHTSA opened a formal safety inquiry into Tesla Inc's Autopilot system after a series of collisions involving Tesla models and emergency vehicles.
