World’s leading EV manufacturer Tesla Inc has finally made its India debut as it has registered a company by Tesla India Motors and Energy Pvt Ltd in Bengaluru (Karnataka).
According to the documents accessed from the Registrar of Companies (RoC), Tesla India will import, distribute, sell, service, maintain & repair electric vehicles & stationary energy storage systems and equipment, energy generation systems & equipment including solar panels, solar electrical system, etc. According to the reports, Tesla's Indian subsidiary has three directors: Vaibhav Taneja, Venkatrangam Sreeram, and David Feinstein. Vaibhav Taneja is the chief accounting officer at Tesla, whereas Feinstein is the senior director of global trade & new market.
Tesla India Motors and Energy has an authorized capital of Rs 15,00,000 and has two shareholders: – Tesla International BV (holding 9,990 shares) & Tesla Motors Netherlands BV (holding 10 shares). There are rumors that Tesla Motors is in talks with Tata Motors to manufacture & sell its vehicles in India. However, officials of Tata Motors have denied such reports.
Tesla could soon start Model 3's booking in our country. For the people not in know, Model 3 is the most affordable Tesla car, priced at $39,990 (approximately Rs 29.45 lakh) for the base model. In the international market, this electric sedan is available in four variants: Standard Range (RWD – rear-wheel-drive), Standard Range Plus (RWD), Long Range (AWD – all-wheel-drive), and Long-Range Performance (AWD).
The battery pack of Model 3 sedan ranges from 50kWh to 75kWh. It delivers a WLTP claimed drive-range of 381km to 580km on a single charge, depending on the variant. Tesla Model 3 can sprint from 0 to 100kmph in 5.3 seconds only. Model 3 also features Tesla’s Autopilot self-driving function, which is standard across Tesla's model line-up. The Tesla Model 3 is likely to be available as a complete build unit (CBU), which suggests its pricing will not be as par with its American-spec version. And so, its prices are supposed to starts from around Rs 55-60 lakh.
