Tata Tiago EV Confirmed; Launch Expected Next Year

On the occasion of World EV Day, Tata Motors has announced to add Tiago EV to its electric vehicles lineup soon. It is expected to be showcased at the forthcoming edition of the Indian Auto Expo, which is scheduled to take place in January 2023. It will be a part of the brand’s target to launch 10 EVs of different body styles by 2025.

Announcing its plans on World EV Day, Mr. Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. said, “World EV Day is indeed a special day for us, as we look back and reflect on our journey so far. We are proud to lead the EV market in India, with a lion’s share of 88%. As early entrants, we have shaped the market and seen it grow with Nexon EV and Tigor EV. We have over 40,000 Tata EVs plying on road and we are grateful to the early adopters who have shown faith in the brand. Leveraging group synergies, we have also established Tata UniEVerse, a one of its kind EV ecosystem, which is further propelling the EV adoption.

For those who aren’t aware, Tata showcased the Tiago EV at the 2018 Auto Expo. However, its to-be-launched version will be slightly different from its concept model. It is likely to be based on the same platform as its ICE counterpart and it could borrow Tigor EV’s 26kWh battery pack that comes mated to a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor rated at 75PS/170Nm and claims a range of up to 306km.

Similar to the X-Press T EV, Tata could also introduce Tiago’s electric fleet version that could come with multiple battery pack options to cater to different types of needs of buyers.

We expect the Tata Tiago EV prices to start from around Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom), making it one of the most affordable mass-market EVs in the country. Expect to hear more about the Tiago EV in the next few months.
