Tata Nexon CNG To Be Revealed At Bharat Mobility Expo 2024

Tata Motors is set to showcase eight products at the 2024 Bharat Mobility Global Expo, slated to be held between 1 and 3 February at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Among these products, the carmaker is also expected to showcase the Nexon CNG. The other products will be the Altroz Racer Concept, Nexon EV Dark, Curvv Concept, Safari Dark, Harrier EV Concept, Safari, and the recently launched Punch EV.

While the technical details of the upcoming Tata Nexon iCNG are scarce at the moment, it is expected to be equipped with the existing 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that will be coupled with a factory-fitted twin-cylinder CNG kit. The primary trade-off associated with all CNG cars is a decline in engine performance, and a similar effect can be anticipated for the Nexon. However, the Nexon CNG is likely to be offered with both manual and AMT transmission options. Recently, Tata has also introduced the AMT option with Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG.

The CNG option could be limited to select variants of the Nexon, including the higher-spec Fearless trim. We expect Nexon CNG variants to command a premium of around Rs 1 lakh over their petrol-only counterparts. For reference, the Nexon petrol-manual variants range between Rs 8.10 lakh and Rs 13.50 lakh, while the Nexon AMT costs from Rs 11.70 to Rs 12.90 lakh (all prices ex-showroom). Tata also offers the Nexon petrol with DCT automatic gearbox, however, it is unlikely to be offered with CNG powertrain.
