Tata Altroz i-Turbo Revealed, Launch Scheduled For 22nd January

Tata Motors has croaked the year 2021 with taking wraps off from its most anticipated Altroz i-Turbo hot-hatch, where 'i' stands for intelligent. Bookings of the cars will begin from tomorrow for a token amount of Rs 11,000. Deliveries, however, will commence from 22nd January 2021 with its price announcement.

2021 Tata Altroz iTurbo – What's New?

Engine

The Altroz i-Turbo is a performance-oriented version of the regular Altroz hatchback. And hence, the biggest change lies under the hood. It gets a new 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that generates 110PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 140Nm. Compared to the existing naturally aspirated 1.2-liter petrol engine, it delivers 24PS/27Nm more power & torque. The i-Turbo also gets a Sport mode along with the current City mode, for a more effervescent driving characteristic. It's 0-100 kmph sprint time is just 11.9 seconds. 

As of now, the engine is paired to a 5-speed manual, a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic is likely to be offered in the near future. As far as the mileage is concerned, this new turbo-petrol motor will deliver approximately 18.3kmpl of fuel economy (as per the MID cycle).

Cosmetic Changes 

The Altroz iTurbo gets minor cosmetic enrichment to distinguish itself from the standard model. The changes include an 'iTurbo' badging on the lower side of the boot lid, and a new Harbor blue exterior color with a blacked-out roof, which is likely to be exclusive for the i-Turbo model. 

The cabin has also witnessed several changes. All Altroz variants (including NA petrol & diesel) will now flaunt a new black & light-grey dual-tone cabin theme, however, the interior layout remains unchanged. It also gets a lot of present-day features.

New Variant & Features

Tata has introduced a new top-of-the-range XZ+ variant, which gets a host of new creature features such as iRA connected car technology with 27 connected car features, doodle setting on the infotainment for personalized wallpaper, express cooling function for AC (cools the car 70 % faster than normal), leatherette upholstery, auto-up power windows, and two additional tweeters for the Harman audio system.

Interestingly, the new Altroz also supports 70+ Hindi, English, and Hinglish voice commands, which allows you to control various features hands-free. This system also supports 'What 3 words' function, which assists to find a particular location using just three words.

Altroz i-Turbo Variants

The Altroz iTurbo will be offered in the XT, XZ, and XZ+ variants. With this, the whole Altroz range is now available in a total of 6 variants. 

Tata Altroz iTurbo – Rivals & Expected Price

The Altroz iTurbo will rival the likes of Hyundai i20 Turbo and Volkswagen Polo TSI. Expect it to be priced at a significant premium over the current XT, XZ, and XZ (O) petrol variants, which are priced between Rs 6.99 lakh to Rs 7.45 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). We believe i-Turbo's pricing will start around Rs 8 lakh mark.
