Skoda To Ramp Up Production For Slavia 1.5 To Meet The High Demand

In a bid to meet the high demand for Skoda Slavia 1.5 liter TSI petrol variants, the Czech automaker will soon boost its production, confirmed by Zac Hollis, the director of sales and marketing, Skoda India.

Order books for the Skoda Slavia opened on November 18, 2021, and the 1.5 liter variants currently account for 30 percent of total bookings, which wasn’t anticipated even by the brand. And so, it got a longer waiting period of up to 4 months, around 2 months higher than the brand’s expectations. However, there are some other challenges as well, including the component supply for the larger engine.

For those who aren’t aware, Skoda produces the 1.0-liter TSI engine locally, whereas the bigger capacity 1.5-liter is being imported from Europe. And with the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the supply of some components for the larger engine has been affected. Furthermore, the global semiconductor shortage is also exacerbating the situation. However, the situation is expected to return to normal soon.

Speaking of the Slavia’s 1.5-litre engine, it’s the most powerful gasoline mill in the mid-size sedan segment that is good in producing 150PS of maximum power and 250Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It also gets the active cylinder technology (ACT), which automatically shuts down two cylinders depending upon the load to ensure optimum fuel economy. The 1.0-litre TSI engine, on the other hand, makes out 115PS and comes with a 6-speed manual or a torque converter automatic.

Currently, Skoda retails the Slavia 1.0 between Rs 10.69 lakh to Rs 15.39 lakh, whereas its 1.5 litre variants will set back to you by Rs 16.19 lakh for the MT and Rs 17.79 lakh for the DSG automatic.

All prices ex-showroom.
