Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Becomes The Best Selling Bike in UK

Royal Enfield bikes are very popular in India. They sell a good number of units per month in our country. But recently RE has set a new sales record in the United Kingdom. For the month of June 2020, the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 became the most selling motorcycles in the middleweight segment (250cc-750cc engine).

Not only this, but the Interceptor 650 has also been the highest-selling naked style bike in the UK for the last 12 months along with the Royal Enfield Himalayan at No.4 in the Top 5 highest selling motorcycles in the middleweight segment.

Royal Enfield Interceptor 650

As per the June 2020 sales report, shared by the MCIA (Motorcycle Industry Association), RE sold 196 units of the Interceptor 650. Yes, these numbers might sound very little compared to the enormous quantities sold in our market, but this milestone is a good indication for the brand that people are accepting its 650 range. It is also important to note that, the company has discontinued the 500cc version of its Classic and Bullet series due to low sales in India. In such a scenario, becoming a bestseller in a country like the UK where the brand isn't as large as India, is a huge thing. Also, it is essential to remark that RE do not produce these bikes in the UK, they are imported here from our shore.

This success of both the bikes in the United Kingdom is due to the constant efforts by Royal Enfield across its international markets to cater the needs of customers. Led by the Interceptor 650 and the Himalayan, RE has recorded 100% growth over last year in Europian market.

Royal Enfield introduced the roadster Interceptor 650 in 2018, along with Continental GT 650, a cafe racer. These were the first modern twin-cylinder motorcycles developed by the brand. Both bikes share the same chassis, suspension setup, wheels, brakes, exhausts, silencers, and last but not the engine. The engine is a 648 cc, SOHC, 8V, parallel-twin, air-oil cooled unit, which produces 47bhp at 7250rpm and 52Nm at 5250rpm. It comes mated with a 6-speed transmission with assist and slipper clutch.

The Interceptor 650 has also won many awards and prime honors including Indian Motorcycle of the Year 2018 and MCN’s Best Naked Motorcycle of the Year 2019.

Author's Take on RE Interceptor 650

This classic retro-style offering from Royal Enfield is truly impressive on both design & performance front. Its powerful 650cc engine is very refined, reliable, and full of torque shots. The engine does not offer any typical characteristics of other Enfield's offering, and that's the beauty of it. However, the bike lacks modern peculiarities.
