No Tolls for EVs in Maharashtra: Here’s the List of Roads

In order to boost the adoption of electric vehicles in Maharashtra, the state government has announced a waiver of toll tax for EVs on select highways and expressways, under the Maharashtra Electric Vehicle Policy 2025.

List of Highways and Expressways Eligible for EV Toll Exemption

The Maharashtra government is offering full toll exemption for pure electric vehicles on the following highways and expressways: –

  • Yashwatrao Chavan Mumbai-Pune Expressway
  • Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg Expressway (Nagpur-Mumbai Expressway)
  • Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri–Nhava Sheva Atal Setu (Trans Harbour Link) from Mumbai to Navi Mumbai

Besides these, gradual toll concessions will also be rolled out on other state highways, ensuring wider benefits for EV users across Maharashtra.

Other Measures To Push EV Sales

To further support strong EV growth, Maharashtra’s new policy has allocated substantial subsidies and incentives across various vehicle categories, including electric 3-wheelers, transport 4-wheelers, light & heavy electric goods carriers, and electric tractors.

The policy also exempts road tax and registration charges on EVs, reducing the overall cost of ownership.

Recognising range anxiety as a major concern, the government is also ramping up charging infrastructure, with fast chargers every 25 km on state and national highways, and additional charging stations at government offices, fuel pumps, housing societies, and commercial buildings statewide. The focus on widespread, reliable charging aims to ensure smooth intercity and urban EV travel for users.

By 2030, Maharashtra aims for 30% of new vehicles and 40% of public buses to be electric, and at least half of the government fleet to transition to clean transport.

By combining toll waivers, financial incentives, charging infrastructure, and supportive regulation, Maharashtra is positioning itself as a front-runner in India’s green mobility revolution, making the switch to electric vehicles easier and more rewarding for all residents.
