Maruti Suzuki Fronx vs Baleno: Which Car Should You Buy?

Planning to buy a new car and feeling confused between the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Fronx? Well, to make an informed decision, one must need to understand the similarities and differences between them.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx vs Baleno: Exterior Design

  • Starting with the design, both siblings boast distinct aesthetics.
  • The Baleno is unmistakably a hatchback with curved body panels, while the Fronx bears SUVish appeal, sharing its design with the Grand Vitara. Thanks to the blacked-out cladding, beefy fenders, flared wheel arches, sturdy-looking roof rails, and outstretched rear profile, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx looks rugged.

  • Both are based on the same Heartact platform.
  • The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is 5mm longer, 20mm wider and 50mm taller than the Baleno. And that’s because of the extended body elements.
  • At 2520mm, both siblings have identical wheelbases. This should result in similar cabin space. However, regarding the cargo space, the Baleno has a slight edge over the Fronx.

Interior and Features

  • Inside the cabin, the Baleno and Fronx feature the same dashboard layout, but the colour scheme differs. Having said that, the Fronx gets a more premium-looking burgundy and black dual-tone theme, while the Baleno flaunts a blue-&-black tone.
  • When it comes to features, both cars are identically equipped. The only advantage the Fronx has is the inclusion of a wireless smartphone charger over Baleno.
  • The key features of both the Maruti offerings include automatic LED headlamps, machine-cut alloy wheels, a 9-inch floating touchscreen infotainment with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, connected car technology with remote control functionalities, Arkamys-tuned sound system, height-adjustable driver’s seat, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, cruise control, electrochromic IRVM, keyless entry with push button start/stop, front footwell lamp, a heads-up display (HUD), a 360-degree surround view system, up to 6 airbags, ISOFIX anchors, 3-point seat belt for all occupants, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control with hill-hold.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx vs Baleno Engine Specifications

  • Maruti Suzuki offers both Baleno and Fronx with an identical 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder, DualJet DualVVT petrol engine (90PS/113Nm), which can be paired with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. This tried-and-tested engine is known for its extremely refined & silent nature, providing a linear power output & excellent fuel efficiency.
  • Customers seeking higher fuel efficiency can also have the 1.2-litre mill with a factory-fitted CNG kit that churn out 77.5PS/98.5Nm and returns 28.51 km/kg.
  • The Fronx also has a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol mill (100PS/148Nm) with a 5-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. This option suits those seeking added punch and primarily driving in full-load conditions. But don’t expect any outright performance from this mill.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx vs Baleno: Which car should you buy?

Considering the comprehensive package and pricing, the Baleno emerges as the more sensible choice. The Fronx comes with a premium price tag, costing up to Rs 3 lakh more than the Baleno (varying depending on the variants). For this additional cost, you gain SUV-like appeal and the 1-litre turbo engine, providing a slight advantage in full-load conditions. If your primary interest lies in SUV-like aesthetics, opting for the segment-above Brezza with a more powerful engine would be a more logical choice over the Fronx 1-litre variants. However, if you’re looking for the 1.2-litre variant, the Fronx is worth considering as an upgrade.
