Maruti eVitara Revealed For Indian Market; Check Range, Charging Time, Launch Timeline

Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest passenger vehicle manufacturer, is set to foray into the EV segment with the eVitara SUV, set to be launched in early 2026. It made its global debut at the 2025 Auto Expo and is already being exported from India to European markets. However, the carmaker has now revealed crucial info about the EV, including battery options, range, charging time, etc, ahead of its market debut.

Not An Electric Version of Grand Vitara

Given its name, some might mistake it for the electric version of the Grand Vitara, but that’s not the case. The eViatra is a born electric vehicle (EV), ie built on a dedicated EV platform dubbed “eHeartect” and features an entirely different design both inside and out. Maruti Suzuki has co-developed this platform with Toyota.

The e Vitara will be offered in three variants: Delta, Zeta and Alpha. While the former will be offered only with the smaller 48kWh battery pack, the latter two will get a larger 61 kWh unit.

Note: While the Indian-spec eVitara is only offered with a single motor, FWD setup, the UK-spec trim also comes in a dual-motor AWD configuration that produces 184PS of max power and 307Nm of peak torque.

Public Charging Network Support

• Maruti Suzuki has revealed that it has already set up over 2,000 charging stations in over 110 cities. The brand has plans to extend this number to 1 lakh chargers in India by 2030.
• Maruti Suzuki claims to have a charger available every 5-10km.
• These chargers can be accessed via the ‘e for me’ app.
• Maruti has also collaborated with 13 charging point operators for access to a wider charging infrastructure.
• The brand has also revealed that its 1500 workshops are EV-ready for servicing.

Maruti e Vitara: Three Buying Options Confirmed

Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that buyers will get three options to own the e Vitara, details of which are mentioned below: –

• Battery As A Service (BaaS): – This will allow customers to buy the car without the battery and pay a subscription fee for the battery pack.
• Subscription: – Instead of buying the EV, buyers can get the vehicle on a monthly rental scheme for a pre-specified period.
• Buying The Entire Vehicle: Just like every other model, you can buy the whole vehicle outright without any conditions.

5 Star Safety Rating

The Bharat NCAP has also released the crash test ratings for the e Vitara, and it scored a perfect 5-star safety rating in both Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and Child Occupant Protection (COP).

Rugged Look

The e Vitara looks butchy and rugged thanks to its upright design, sharper angles & cuts and chunky cladding all over the body.

Upfront, it gets sleek Y-shaped LED DRLs housing projector LED headlamps between them. Its nose is clean and aerodynamic, featuring a closed-off grille that screams its EV identity. The bumper itself carries bold geometric cuts and a contrasting skid plate finish, adding toughness to its overall appearance.

In profile, its chunky wheel arches, thick door cladding and and a prominent bulge over the rear wheel arch further add to its muscular look.

Just like the front, the rear also features a rugged-looking bumper and Y-insignia in the tail lamps that extend slightly into the tailgate, giving the SUV a wider stance. Furthermore, a roof-mounted spoiler and steeply raked windscreen complete the sporty character.

Dimensions

The e Vitara is 4275mm long, 1800mm wide and 1635mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2700mm and a minimum ground clearance of 180mm. The EV rides on 18-inch dual-tone aero-optimised alloy wheels shod with 225/55 section tyres.

A Plush Cabin Ambience

Inside, the e Vitara features a completely distinctive dashboard design, which we haven’t seen in any Maruti Suzuki car to date. In fact, it feels noticeably more premium than any other Maruti Suzuki offering.

The cabin gets a dual-tone theme, with generous use of soft-touch materials across the dashboard and door pads. There are also the subtle piano-black accents and brushed metallic inserts that add a classy and upmarket touch to the cabin.

What further enhances the overall feel of the cabin are the new dual-connected display setup (first for Maruti Suzuki), combining infotainment and instrument cluster and the 2-spoke steering wheel for a sporty feel. The other notable features and key traits of the SUV include: –

Once launched, the e Vitara will go up against the Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV and Windsor, Mahindra BE 6, Tata Curvv EV and Vinfast VF6.
