Maruti Brezza Manual Losses Some Key Features; Lower Mileage Than Automatic

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza’s feature list has now been revised, but not everything is for the better. Of all the changes, the manual variants are worst affected as it now loses the mild-hybrid technology, resulting in lower mileage figures.

  • Earlier, the mild-hybrid technology was standard with the Brezza’s 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine.
  • Now, with the removal of torque assist during acceleration, idle start-stop system, and regenerative braking, the manual variants of the Maruti Brezza now claim a lower fuel efficiency of up to 17.38 kmpl. That’s around 2.77 kmpl less than the previously claimed figure of up to 20.15 kmpl.
  • The automatic variants of the Maruti Brezza will continue to be offered with mild-hybrid technology, maintaining the impressive mileage of 19.80 kmpl. It makes the Brezza automatic 2.42 kmpl more fuel efficient than its manual counterparts.

ESP no longer standard with CNG variants

  • The CNG variants of the Maruti Suzuki Brezza will no longer get two vital active safety features: electronic stability control and hill hold assist.
  • Features like driver & co-driver airbags, ABS with EBD, rear wiper & washer, day/night IRVM, rear parking sensors with camera, high-speed alert system, seat belt reminders, and ISOFIX child seat anchors will continue on offer with the CNG version.

What it gains?

  • While the update includes the loss of some important features, Maruti Suzuki has added rear passenger seat belt reminders as a standard feature to the Brezza.

Note: Regardless of the rear occupancy, the seat belts must be fastened as there are no weight sensors. This might cause slight inconvenience of having to unbuckle and buckle the seal belts while getting in and out of the car.

Reason for these changes?

As of now, Maruti Suzuki hasn’t given any reasons for these changes. But they are probably part of cost control measurements as input costs are on the rise.

Any changes in prices?

  • The prices of the Brezza remain unaffected.
  • The SUV continues to range between Rs 7.29 lakh to Rs 13.98 lakh (ex-showroom).
  • In the Indian market, the Brezza goes up against the Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger.
