Mahindra is all set to update the second-generation Thar off-roader with a host of new features and of course the new twin-peak logo. Thanks to the Yash9w, we got to see the updated Thar inside & out. Here are the details: –

  • Starting with the exterior, you’ll now see Mahindra’s new brand identity on the hubcaps of the wheels and key fob. The radiator grille, however, will continue to feature the Mahindra lettering.
  • The new Mahindra logo can also be found on the steering wheel.
  • Mahindra has also updated the color palette of the 2022 Thar. It will now be available in a total of four exterior hues: Napoli Black, Galaxy Grey, Aqua Marine, and Red Rage. The Mystic Copper and Rocky Beige color options have been discontinued.

  • Inside, you’ll notice that the switchgear below the climate control panel has been updated now. New buttons for traction control, hill descent control, and central door locking have been added to the previously empty slots to the right of the hazard light switch. Earlier, these buttons (except for the central locking) were situated to the right of the steering wheel, along with the MID controls.
  • The design of the above-mentioned switches/tabs has also been updated.
  • One of the two USB charge ports above the storage tray has also been removed.
  • Mahindra has also equipped the manual variants of Thar with an idle engine start-stop function to reduce unwanted fuel burning.

Apart from these, the Mahindra Thar remains unchanged. It will continue to be available with the same 2.0-liter turbo-petrol (150PS/up to 320Nm) and 2.2-liter diesel engines (130PS/300Nm), with a standard 4WD drivetrain and the choices of 6-speed manual or torque converter automatic transmission.

Currently, the Mahindra Thar costs between Rs 13.53 lakh to Rs 16.03 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and commands a huge waiting period. The homegrown SUVmaker is also working on the 5-door version of Mahindra Thar, which is expected to arrive sometime in 2023.
