KTM Reaches 1 Million Unit Production Milestone In India

Austrian bikemaker KTM, which started its India operations 12 years ago, has crossed the 1 million production milestone in the country with the rollout of a 390 Adventure from Bajaj Auto’s Chakan plant in Pune, Maharashtra. To celebrate this landmark, Stefan Pierer, CEO of Pierer Mobility AG, was also present at the roll-out of the milestone unit. 

Commenting on this occasion, Stefan Pierer, CEO of Pierer Mobility AG, said, “At Pierer Mobility AG, we abide by our four pillars of success. These include operating as a global entity, innovating continuously, getting the right talent, and building distinct brands worldwide. Our success in this partnership gives us great confidence about the future, where we will expand our portfolio into electric.”

KTM India’s current lineup of vehicles has as many as ten models. These include KTM 390 Duke, 250 Duke, 200 Duke, 125 Duke, RC 125, RC 200, RC 390, RC GP, 250 Adventure and 390 Adventure. The company also exports its bikes from India to more than 118 countries around the world.

For those who aren’t aware, Bajaj Auto has 49.9 per cent stakes in KTM’s parent company Pierer Mobility AG. KTM and Bajaj Auto plan to explore common themes, including zero-emission exhaust systems and light electric vehicles for urban environments, with an open approach to various battery solutions. The companies also have plans to develop a common 48 V electric two-wheeler platform for serial production in India and are working on taking the Chetak EV platform to Europe.
