The feature-rich Kia Sorento is the latest entrant into the three-row SUV segment in the Indian market, priced between Rs 27.99 lakh and Rs 40.39 lakh (ex-showroom). It is available with both diesel and petrol-hybrid powertrains, paired with different automatic transmission setups for each engine option. We recently tested the Kia Sorento in its petrol-hybrid avatar to find out what fuel efficiency (mileage) it delivers in real-world conditions.
Kia Sorento Hybrid: Real-World Fuel Efficiency (Mileage)
| Engine | 1.6-litre turbo-petrol with self-charging strong hybrid technology |
| Max Power | 180PS (petrol) + 65PS (motor) |
| Peak Torque | 265Nm (petrol) + 264Nm (motor) |
| Transmission Options | 6-speed Manual and 6-speed Torque Converter Automatic |
| Drivetrain | FWD / AWD |
| ARAI Claimed Fuel Efficiency | – |
| Gaadify Tested Fuel Efficiency (60% on highway and 40% in city) | 16.6 kmpl |
We recently tested the Kia Sorento petrol-hybrid AWD version, and it returned a fuel efficiency of 16.6 kmpl when driven in my usual driving style, which is slightly on the gentler side. If you drive predominantly in the city, expect the three-row SUV to return slightly better mileage, as the petrol engine can switch off and the SUV can run on pure EV mode under low load conditions. In such cases, expect the overall fuel efficiency to go over 18 kmpl. The figure could also be higher with the FWD version, as its lower and reduced drivetrain power losses should further improve the overall efficiency.

Other Engine Options
Aside from the 1.6-litre turbo-petrol with strong hybrid powertrain, the Kia Sorento is also available with a 2-litre diesel engine, specifications of which are mentioned below: –
| Engine | 2.2-litre turbo-diesel |
| No of Cylinders | 4 |
| Max Power | 202PS |
| Peak Torque | 401Nm |
| Transmission | 8-speed Dual-Clutch Automatic Transmission (DCT) |
| Drivertrain | FWD/AWD |

| Model | Kia Sorento |
| Ex-Showroom Price | Diesel: Rs 27.99 lakh to Rs 38.89 lakh Petrol-Hybrid: Rs 29.49 lakh to Rs 40.39 lakh |
Offered in both 6- and 7-seater configurations, the Kia Sonet is priced between Rs 27.99 lakh and Rs 40.39 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on the powertrain option. And going by this price range, it can be seen as a worthy alternative to the Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian, Toyota Innova Hycross and Volkswagen Tayron.
