Jeep India will start accepting pre-launch bookings for the Compass-based Meridian three-row SUV from May 3, 2022, with deliveries expected to begin soon after its price announcement.
For those who aren’t aware, the Jeep Meridian is a 7-seater version of the Compass premium SUV that borrows its stylings cues from its younger sibling and the elegant Grand Cherokee, with notable highlights including a seven-slat grille, flat LED headlamps, bolder-looking front bumper with two large chrome strips, squared-out wheel arches, and slim LED taillights.

In terms of features, the Jeep Meridian comes loaded with a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Alexa voice commands, a 9-speaker Alpine sound system, dual-zone climate control, a 10.2-inch fully digital driver display, a panoramic sunroof, 8-way power-adjustable & ventilated front seats, a wireless smartphone charger, a powered tailgate, and recline adjustment for all seats. Jeep claims that it will offer equal comfort in all three rows, and its rear door opens at an 80-degree angle, which will aid in easy ingress and egress.
The passenger’s safety kit comprises six airbags as standard, front & rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD, a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control, tire pressure monitoring system, hill start/descent assist, and traction-assist functions.

Underneath the bonnet, the Meridian comes equipped with the same 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine as the Compass SUV, which produces 170PS and 350Nm. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a 9-speed torque converter automatic unit that will propel the front wheels of the car. The automatic variants can be specced with an all-wheel drivetrain (AWD) as well.
Expect Jeep to price the Meridian from around Rs 30 lakh onwards, positioning it against the Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster, Mahindra Alturas G4, Isuzu mu-X, and the petrol-only Skoda Kodiaq.
