Hyundai Creta Rival Volkswagen Taigun SUV Teased

German manufacturer Volkswagen has teased its upcoming Taigun SUV, revealing the front design of the car. The Taigun has already been listed on VW's website for collecting online inquiries.

The teaser reveals the front facia of the car. It resembles the China-spec VW T-Cross SUV. The Volkswagen Taigun looks subtle with some sporty design elements. It's upright stance, boxy design and dual-tone bumper give the SUV a sturdy appeal. The grille of the car features horizontal chrome slats, flanked by dual-barrel LED headlamps incorporating LED daytime running lamps. The front facia is dominated by the large air dam section, equipped with a chrome bar that surrounds the fog lamp housing. There is also a huge silver-finished faux diffuser placed on the lower side of the bumper.

Besides this, the teaser image also reveals the round profile of the wheel arches with heavy cladding, multi-spoke machine-finished alloy wheels, silver roof rails, and dual-tone ORVMs.

For the people not in know, the VW Taigun had already been revealed in the near-production form in February 2020, just before the Indian Auto Expo. It was equipped with a single-bar LED taillamps at the rear, whereas the cabin was finished in a dual-tone color scheme with body-color highlights, featuring an all-digital 10.25-inch instrument cluster and a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic AC, etc.

Volkswagen Taigun: What else we know so far?

The upcoming Volkswagen Taigun will be based on the MQB-AO IN platform that the VW Group has localized for the Indian market. This platform will also underpin several future products of Volkswagen Group such as Skoda Vision IN concept-based SUV, Skoda Slavia (Rapid's successor model), and the new VW Vento.

The production-spec VW Taigun is expected to be powered by a 1.0-liter, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol (115PS/200Nm) engine. For transmission duties, a 6-speed manual & a 7-speed DSG (Direct-Shift Gearbox) are likely to be given.

Apart from this, the German maker could also offer the SUV with a 1.5-liter, 4-cylinder TSI-Evo petrol engine that produces 150PS of maximum power and 250 Nm of torque. This engine comes equipped with Active Cylinder Management (ACT) technology, which deactivates up to two inner cylinders when power demand is low. This helps to achieve higher fuel efficiency. As per the reports, this engine is expected to come with only a 7-speed DSG automatic.

The Taigun will not get any diesel engine option. However, the brand is working on a CNG powertrain.

Expected Pricing & Launch

We believe Volkswagen to price the Taigun in a price bracket of Rs 10 lakh to Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom). It is likely to be launched in the coming months.

Rivals

In the compact SUV segment, the Volkswagen Taigun will rival the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks, Renault Duster, and the upcoming Skoda Vision IN SUV.
