For the very first time, Honda 2-wheelers India has teased its upcoming electric scooter which is slated to be revealed on November 27th, 2024. The teaser shows us a glimpse of the scooter’s LED headlamp.
While details about the upcoming electric scooter are scarce at the moment, the earlier leaked patented design image suggests that it could borrow some of its styling elements from the Activa 6G, including the handlebar shroud. However, the majority of the parts will be unique to the upcoming EV. It is expected to be underpinned on a completely new chassis, with a hub-mounted motor could do the propulsion duties.
Globally, Honda has two electric models in its portfolio – the EM1 e: and the CUV e. While the former offers roughly 48 kilometres of range, the latter can cover over 70 kilometres on a single charge. While it is unclear whether the Honda Activa Electric will share its powertrain with any of these overseas models, it is likely to feature removable batteries for added convenience. The brand has already started establishing its battery-swapping stations in select cities.
Reports suggest that the production of the Honda Activa Electric will begin at the Karnataka-based facility by the end of this year, so we expect its launch in early 2025. And since it is likely to use extensively localised parts, expect its prices to start from around Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, it will go up against the TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak, Ather Rizta and Ola S1 range.
Along with Activa Electric, the brand is also expected to showcase another EV, which could potentially target a different segment.
