Global NCAP’s #SaferCarsForIndia Campaign To End Soon

  • UK-based charity Global New Car Assessment Programme (GNCAP) has announced to end its ‘Safer Cars for India’ campaign by the end of this year.
  • Currently, the Global NCAP conducts safety crash tests for cars sold in India under its #SaferCarsForIndia campaign. But from October 2023, the Indian government’s recently launched BHARAT NCAP will do the safety assessment for cars manufactured and sold in India.
  • David Ward, GNCAP’s president, stated that they don’t seek to rival the BHARAT NCAP. This will also dodge any chances of confusion among consumers.
  • The Global NCAP has also signed an MOU with the CIRT (Central Institute for Road Transport) to provide technical assistance to Bharat NCAP.
  • As per the signed MOU, the Global NCAP will help the CIRT with the various standard operating procedures for vehicle selection, overseeing crash tests, media engagement etc.
  • For those who aren’t aware, the Global NCAP has conducted over 62 crash tests on more than 50 models in the last 10 years under its #SaferCarsForIndia campaign. Here’s a look at the top 10 highest-rated cars at the Global NCAP’s new and more rigorous testing criteria: –
